"Leonard Warren had a unique voice and timbre, an ease of flow and line that became the standard by which all Verdi baritones are measured. Publishing his life story and preserving his recordings must not only be our pleasure, but also our obligation for future generations."

- Sherrill Milnes

By documenting and preserving Warren's artistry, the Foundation will make a lasting contribution to the study, performance and appreciation of opera, for the benefit of aspiring singers and audiences alike. The original goals of the Foundation were:

  • To commission a biography of Leonard Warren documenting his life and vocal career.
  • To make available Warren's most treasured opera arias and concert songs in a new Commemorative CD set.
  • To donate the book and CDs to approximately 440 music schools worldwide.
  • To produce a noncommercial educational video recording of Warren performances from available telecasts.

The first two goals were met during April 2000 with the publication of the Warren biography and the release of the Warren Commemorative CD set.

The third goal was met between September 2000 and April 2001, with a gift of both the Warren biography and CD set to 440 music schools with a strong voice program in the following countries:

  • United States
  • Canada
  • United Kingdom
  • Ireland
  • Australia
  • New Zealand

The remaining goals are:

  • Help market the Warren biography and Commemorative CD set to insure the widest possible worldwide distribution.

  • Produce the educational video of Warren performances from available telecasts.

  • Provide a new CD of Warren recordings of father-daughter duets composed by Verdi, featuring several outstanding sopranos.
