Chapter 8 The Door in the Deep Mountains and Forests
Chapter 8 The Door in the Deep Mountains and Forests
A strange and unpredictable world, nestled amidst lakes and mountains.
"Finally...we finally escaped."
"They...they didn't catch up, did they?"
"Tch... I... I don't know."
The three lucky individuals who had transmigrated from the modern world to this bizarre world were panting heavily, their faces pale.
One of the girls, tall and with a ponytail, was bent over, her hands on her knees, breathing heavily, while constantly turning her head to look at the thick fog behind her.
"What...what was that thing just now?!"
The girl asked, her heart pounding so hard she was gasping for breath, desperately trying to get oxygen from the air to slow her rapid heartbeat.
But the extremely high heart rate wasn't just due to the frantic running just now.
It's mostly because of fear.
I woke up to find myself not in my bedroom, but on a misty mountain path.
Right in front of us, under a shrouded, dimly lit forest, lay a shadowy and eerie atmosphere.
A small, half-hidden monster in the mist is licking a head that is still attached to its spine.
Its tongue, covered in barbs, could tear off large chunks of flesh with each lick.
This reminded her of the scene when she tore off the band-aid, and the tender flesh that hadn't fully healed was also torn off along with it.
When this scene, comparable to a foreign R-rated gore horror film, actually appeared before her eyes.
The impact made her feel cold all over and her hands and feet go weak.
He stood there, completely stunned, his mind blank.
If it weren't for the young man's shout that brought her blank mind back to work, she probably would have been left with only that head.
No one at the scene responded to her question.
The middle-aged man and another young man were alert to every subtle change in their surroundings.
"Xiao Jing, how's the recovery going? Check if that thing has followed us."
Wang Haojing nodded silently and closed his eyes.
The panting girl next to him felt a chill run down her spine and subconsciously looked at the young man with his eyes closed.
She could sense something invisible quietly gathering from the young man.
Then, like ripples created by a pebble thrown into water, it spread out rapidly.
The ripples passed over her, giving her the illusion that she had been spied on.
The middle-aged man keenly noticed the girl's reaction, but did not make a fuss immediately.
Instead, he remained vigilant, waiting for Wang Haojing to complete his investigation.
"Brother Zhang, it seems to be still in the same place."
Wang Haojing opened his eyes and said to Zhang Guanghai.
"That's good." Hearing this, Zhang Guanghai breathed a sigh of relief and leaned against the tree trunk. "What bad luck, running into this thing."
"Brother Zhang, that thing just now, it doesn't look like a low-level demon to me."
"Not bad, it seems you haven't been slacking off in your cultivation. Your mastery of mental energy detection is getting better and better."
Wang Haojing, who had received praise from Zhang Guanghai, scratched his head and chuckled foolishly.
The girl standing to the side looked at the two of them with a blank expression.
What kind of unranked demon?
What does it mean to not slack off in cultivation, and to detect mental energy?
"What...are you talking about?"
Zhang Guanghai looked the girl over once more.
"What's your name? Where are you from?"
He Xiaoxiao is from Shicheng.
He Xiaoxiao responded quickly; it was the first time she had ever felt how wonderful it was to talk to someone.
"My name is Zhang Guanghai."
"This isn't a familiar place for you anymore. You usually watch dramas and read novels here, right?"
"Just think of your current situation as a time-travel scene in a TV drama."
"This world is dangerous; man-eating monsters are everywhere. What you just saw was just one example."
"From this time on, you will come into this world one to three times a week."
……
Zhang Guanghai briefly described the dangers of this bizarre world and their current predicament.
He then quietly observed He Xiaoxiao's reaction.
He Xiaoxiao was seen holding her forehead with one hand, her eyebrows furrowed, looking very troubled.
"Since this bizarre world is so dangerous, how am I supposed to survive if I don't run into you next time?"
"Are there any shelters or similar places built by previous generations in this world that provide refuge?"
He Xiaoxiao quickly accepted her current situation and grasped the crux of the problem.
According to Zhang Guanghai, he uncontrollably enters this dangerous world two to three times a week.
It's fortunate that I was able to run into these two people this time. If I were alone next time, with my strength that's so weak that I can barely kill a chicken, how would I face a man-eating monster?
Zhang Guanghai's words were like a bucket of cold water poured over her head.
"I've traversed this place dozens of times, and I can tell you with absolute certainty that there is no safe zone."
"There are native inhabitants in this world, and they have objects in their homes that prevent monsters from approaching them."
"However, the indigenous people won't give us anything. Every time we see them, their doors and windows are usually closed, and they basically won't offer any help."
"So, I've let go of that idea. Here, I can only rely on myself for everything."
If only there were safe zones.
The period immediately following my fall into this bizarre world wasn't necessarily this difficult.
Zhang Guanghai thought to himself.
After hearing Zhang Guanghai's answer, He Xiaoxiao looked miserable and had no choice but to accept it.
"Aside from the first time he encountered the monster, he remained relatively calm and didn't make a scene. He has a good ability to accept things."
"Judging from the previous reactions, it seems to lean towards mental strength."
Zhang Guanghai took in He Xiaoxiao's reaction and nodded slightly to himself.
"He's a promising talent, but he's prone to mental lapses and daydreaming."
oooo~
A strange howl, neither wolf nor wolf, came from the depths of the distant woods.
This interrupted Zhang Guanghai's attempt to explain to He Xiaoxiao.
Wang Haojing instantly went on alert, his muscles tensing up.
Zhang Guanghai waved his hand dismissively, indicating to Wang Haojing that there was no need to be nervous.
"That howl comes from forest wolves, which usually appear in packs."
"Judging from the sound, if it's just one head, I can handle it easily."
Hey~
More strange roars, as if in response to the initial roar, gradually rose from all around.
In the dim woods not far away, a dozen or so figures emerged from the mist.
"Brother Zhang..."
"Brother Zhang..."
Wang Haojing and He Xiaoxiao spoke at the same time.
Even in the dim light, the two could see that Zhang Guanghai's face had darkened considerably.
"Let's go! The number of wolves in the forest has exceeded a certain threshold; it's going to be troublesome!"
Upon receiving the order, Wang Haojing reacted swiftly.
With a mental scan, he had a general idea of the surrounding situation.
"Brother Zhang, to the east! The wolves in the woods there haven't been surrounded yet."
"Alright, let's go east!"
Zhang Guanghai nodded, grabbed He Xiaoxiao, who was already half a colleague in his eyes, and ran off to the east.
Hey!
Seeing that the prey was about to be caught, it ran away.
The wolves in the forest were unwilling to let them leave.
After roaring, they took off and swarmed forward.
Zhang Guanghai watched as He Xiaoxiao, whom he was dragging along, was panting heavily and gradually losing her ability to keep up with him.
He gritted his teeth and tightened his grip on He Xiaoxiao's hand.
If it were just him and Wang Haojing, they might be able to escape the wolf pack's encirclement in the forest.
But now they're dragging He Xiaoxiao along, who clearly doesn't train much in the real world.
Escaping the wolf pack has become more than twice as difficult.
"Xiao Jing, if this continues, the wolf pack will definitely catch up with us, and we'll all die then."
"You carry He Xiaoxiao on your back and go first. I'll hold them off for a few minutes. The wolves in the forest can't do anything to me in a short time!"
"Yes, Brother Zhang!"
Wang Haojing didn't say much, and simply carried He Xiaoxiao on his back.
Zhang Guanghai's eyes were resolute, and his exposed arms turned red at a visible speed.
This is one of the manifestations of his extraordinary power.
It can significantly enhance physical strength and make one more agile in a short period of time.
Zhang Guanghai turned around and stopped, facing the wolf pack directly.
He had been navigating this treacherous world for a long time, had already reached the first rank, was fully familiar with his own combat strength, and was even preparing for the advancement ritual to the second rank.
Currently, he can be considered to be at the peak of the first-order limit!
Even so, he was prepared to be defeated or even sacrifice himself when faced with such a large number of wolves in the forest.
He inexplicably thought of what he had just said.
It would be great if there were places like safe zones or shelters in this bizarre world.
"Brother Zhang..."
"what?"
With his arms red and in a fighting stance, Zhang Guanghai was somewhat displeased.
People are prepared to die, and if they still can't finish installing smoothly at this point, it's really frustrating.
"There seems to be a door over there?"
"There's no way there's a door in these deep mountains and forests. Don't be foolish again, run!"
"It's not just Brother Zhang, it actually works!"
"Go to hell..."
Zhang Guanghai couldn't help but curse, but when he turned around and saw the heavy, ancient wooden door in front of Wang Jinghao, with light white mist swirling around it...
He was completely stunned, and the rest of the words he was about to say were stuck in his throat and he couldn't get them out.
In the mountains where there are only trees, there really is a door.
Moreover, it appeared out of thin air, all alone with only a door!
