Chapter 12 I had an epiphany
Do runes also contain the spiritual essence of heaven and earth?
Chen Zheng looked down at the newly inscribed 'Wind' rune in front of him, somewhat astonished, but he immediately realized the essence of the rune.
Runes are essentially traces of the power of heaven and earth. Ancient powerful beings recorded the "traces" they saw when they comprehended the heavens and earth, which formed runes.
Since it comes from heaven and earth, it is only natural that it contains the spirit of heaven and earth.
plunder!
Without hesitation, Chen Zheng gently pressed his palm on the inscribed stone slab. Instantly, a faint wisp of cyan spiritual energy emanated from the runes, merging into his palm like a wisp of wind.
Boom! Chen Zheng's consciousness roared, and he vaguely saw the gale howling in the boundless sky and earth, sweeping across the grassland, over the mountain ridge, and stirring up the waves.
These winds can be devastating when they are raging, and gentle when they are caressing the willow branches.
That was the most primal form of "wind," the moment when the creator recorded this rune.
As Chen Zheng absorbed that wisp of runic spiritual energy, the surrounding energy points surged in from all directions as if drawn by a vortex, continuously transforming into vital energy.
"Plundered a trace of the spiritual essence of heaven and earth, Enlightenment towards wind +1, Affinity with heaven and earth +1".
"Having received the energy of heaven and earth, your cultivation level has increased to Level 5 Martial Artist [5% → 7%]"
Upon seeing the notification that appeared before him, Chen Zheng's breath hitched.
He never imagined that runes could plunder spiritual energy, and with such a good effect.
Just one rune increased his cultivation progress by 2%. If he were to plunder all 300 runes he already possessed, wouldn't his cultivation level skyrocket to the ninth level of martial artist?
"Don't rush..." Chen Zheng took a deep breath, suppressing his excited emotions.
The fact that runes can plunder the spiritual essence of heaven and earth is a major discovery, but some questions still need to be clarified: can all runes plunder this essence, or only some?
Also, can runes be repeatedly looted?
With a thought, Chen Zheng exited the Plunder talent state to avoid consumption, and then reached out and pressed the submit button next to the device.
"Detection in progress, please wait... Rune energy loop detection complete, starting data upload."
"Certification successful. Congratulations on mastering another rune."
With the operation, Chen Zheng mastered the rune, and his academic task for this semester became 1/500.
However, none of that mattered. Chen Zheng pressed the restart button on the device, and the stone slab immediately sank, shattered, and was squeezed again. Soon, a new inscribed stone slab appeared.
Without hesitation, based on his previous experience in inscription, Chen Zheng quickly re-inscribed the 'Wind' symbol.
The plunder of all spirits resumed, and I re-entered the state of observing all things. Then I discovered that although the newly inscribed wind talisman had a complete energy circulation, it lacked that feeling.
"Does it only work on the first raid?" Chen Zheng was slightly disappointed; he had thought he could exploit a bug in the Heaven and Earth system.
Of course, one shouldn't be too greedy. Chen Zheng continued testing, inscribing three basic runes that he had already mastered onto the inscribed stone tablet.
The runes are 'Mountain', which increases the weight of an object upon successful inscription; 'Barrier', which effectively blocks energy fluctuations; and 'Return', which accelerates energy flow.
This time, Chen Zheng only sensed the spiritual energy fluctuations in the 'mountain' rune.
"It seems that not all runes can be plundered!" Chen Zheng said thoughtfully, pressing down with his palm. An invisible force enveloped a wisp of black spiritual energy that drifted out from the 'depths' of the rune.
boom!
The sensation of his consciousness booming returned, and Chen Zheng vaguely saw an incomparably majestic black mountain in his eyes, with a heavy, solid, and suppressive aura coming towards him.
At the same time, the surrounding天地能量 (heaven and earth energy) surged in again, and his internal energy and blood surged.
"Plundered a trace of the spiritual essence of heaven and earth, Gravity perception +1, Affinity with heaven and earth +1".
"Having received the energy of heaven and earth, your cultivation level has increased to Level 5 Martial Artist [7% → 10%]"
Chen Zheng exhaled, feeling his blood and qi grow stronger, and smiled, but the smile immediately froze.
In the dim depths of the abyss, after half a day of hunting, the Black Armored Earth Dragon, which had grown to five and a half meters tall, was knocked away by a massive monster that roared out of the darkness, its chest scales shattered.
Roar! The wounded black-armored earth dragon roared, but instead of retaliating, it turned and rushed into another passage, disappearing in the blink of an eye, while memorizing the location of the monster.
"We were ambushed." In the dark and narrow cave, the Black Armored Earth Dragon looked down at the wound on its chest, where the bleeding had stopped and granulation tissue was growing rapidly, with a solemn expression.
It's actually quite normal to be ambushed. The abyss is inherently dangerous, teeming with monsters. Considering the Black Armored Earth Dragon's strength, it's quite lucky that it's only 'injured' now.
"Holy crap, what's trying to bite my butt!" The black-armored earth dragon roared suddenly, its tail, which was more than two meters long, whipped around, tearing the air apart and smashing the head of the worm-like monster that had emerged from the soil.
The black-armored earth dragon looked back at the monster's corpse, somewhat surprised: "There are even snacks delivered to our door." With that, it nimbly flicked its tail, piercing into the monster's remains and beginning to devour them.
The Black Armored Earth Dragon needed some time to recover from its injuries. Chen Zheng withdrew part of his consciousness and then retrieved the information on the three hundred basic runes he possessed from his personal terminal.
The first-year coursework for the Rune Department only required a quantity of runes, without specifying which runes to use. Therefore, most students chose simple runes from the three thousand basic rune library to learn.
The same goes for Chen Zheng.
The runes he mastered possessed a variety of properties, such as the 'block' and 'return' inscribed earlier.
After filtering and refreshing, 32 items met the requirements and were all directly related to some kind of natural force, containing forces such as wind, fire, thunder, mountains, water, mist, frost, and rocks.
Chen Zheng was very satisfied with this; the thirty-odd runes were equivalent to more than thirty energy infusions.
Once he has absorbed the spiritual essence of these runes, his next learning goal will be to prioritize runes that resonate with the power of heaven and earth.
To ensure a high success rate, Chen Zheng continued to activate the Myriad Spirits Plunder ability.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
In the midst of repeated mental turmoil, Chen Zheng saw flames churning in the magma, withered trees struck by lightning on the mountaintop, and raging torrents.
"Plundered a trace of the spiritual essence of heaven and earth, understanding of fire +1, affinity with heaven and earth +1".
"Having received the energy of heaven and earth, your cultivation level has increased to Level 5 Martial Artist [10% → 14%]"
"Plundered a trace of the spiritual essence of heaven and earth, Enlightenment towards lightning +1, Affinity with heaven and earth +1".
"Having received the energy of heaven and earth, my cultivation has increased to Level 5 Martial Artist [14% → 16%]..."
As the energy of heaven and earth poured into his body time and again, Chen Zheng's cultivation began to soar, his qi and blood became increasingly powerful, and the surging aura gradually attracted the attention of the surrounding classmates.
"Have you noticed... that the energy of heaven and earth is flowing in one direction?"
As he spoke, the boy looked in the direction of the energy flow and his gaze fell on the back of the person standing in front of the device by the window.
"Is it Chen Zheng?"
"What is he doing?"
"Huh, why didn't he save that rune? The device screen shows that the energy fluctuation of that rune has already been activated?"
At this moment, someone tried to get closer to take a look, but upon seeing this, Jiang Mo, who was not far away, suddenly stood up and gestured for everyone to stop.
"Everyone, please keep your voices down."
Jiang Mo whispered, "Don't get too close, don't make a sound. Whatever Chen Zheng is doing, don't disturb him now."
Li Tang also walked over from the other side, glanced at Chen Zheng who was constantly inscribing runes, and together with Jiang Mo, helped him stop those who wanted to get closer.
Although no one knows what happened to Chen Zheng, his increasingly strong aura is clearly not a bad thing.
Chen Zheng was aware of his classmates' reactions, but ignored them because he had deliberately revealed his presence.
His martial arts performance has been mediocre since high school. He was a level four martial artist until yesterday, but he broke through to level five at noon today and is about to break through to level six.
His rapid increase in cultivation level in a short period of time would seem suspicious to anyone who isn't a fool. But if he had the excuse of "learning runes, sudden enlightenment, and being infused with the energy of heaven and earth," everything would make sense.
Such precedents are not uncommon in the history of rune systems, but they are usually set by old professors who have been immersed in runes for many years.
As for why he was able to have this sudden enlightenment, who knows?
