Chapter 20 Classroom
Chapter 20 Classroom
"Little Fafnir, you're here quite early. Class starts in twenty minutes. How was lunch?"
"Hello Mr. Victor, I had a decent lunch. Thank you, Allen, for helping out in the cafeteria; he used his points to order me an extra plate of fried meat."
Fafnir felt a little ashamed: "I went to the cafeteria immediately after class, intending to help Allen with the chores, but perhaps because the Introduction to Spells class ended late in the morning, he had already finished the pre-meal preparations."
I was starving, and I don't know if it was because I had just cast a fireball spell, but I wanted to buy an extra serving of fried meat at the window.
But Allen said his points were useless; he had already eaten a free lunch in the kitchen, and he used his points to pay for my meal. I was very grateful to him.
After lunch, I helped Allen wash the dishes for half an hour.
"Oh—wow, that's great, that's great. Come on, find a seat. This class is bookkeeping. I only have two classes a week, Introduction to Spirituality and Bookkeeping, on Mondays. I didn't expect you to be teaching both of them, haha."
I was only transferred here this semester, and my main responsibility isn't in the grammar school. This is my first time teaching you, so please feel free to ask if I do anything wrong or if you have any questions.
The bookkeeping class officially began when the clock struck two in the afternoon.
The students sparsely filled half the classroom.
The classroom was rather small, with only about a dozen students. Most of them were not from the lower grades, as they were not wearing the standard gray robes and uniforms, which is a "privilege" for older students.
This is a university-wide general education elective course, and many students just randomly chose it to fill up the credits.
Fafner only learned about this new course yesterday when he checked the timetable at the school's academic affairs office.
The teaching is conducted by Viktor Zaitsev, the newly arrived assistant bishop of the Church of the God of Death in the Lorraine region, who holds the rank of third-class bishop.
"Alright, students, let's start class now. Let me take attendance."
Isaiah Grant.
"arrive."
"Martial Weaver."
"..."
"Martial Weaver? He missed the second class?"
……
"Auditor, Fafnir Beckett."
"Here." Fafnir, not expecting Mr. Victor to call his name, quickly replied.
"Hmm... let me see. Three people were absent today, not many. I hope everyone will ask for leave if they don't want to come in the future."
Our school has over 600 students, and everyone needs to complete the required credits for elective courses. However, the number of elective courses is not particularly large, so please cherish every opportunity.
Okay, class is now in session.
Fafner understood that the grammar school had five grades and admitted students twice a year, with each intake fluctuating between fifty and seventy students. Classes were mostly held in a mixed, disorganized manner.
Just like the introductory spirituality class this morning, most of the students were new students, but some were first-year students from the previous cohort.
Because they had not mastered meditation and clairvoyance when they first enrolled, they could only take a semester of meditation and clairvoyance courses first.
"Last lesson we talked about the origin and function of bookkeeping, simple single-entry bookkeeping, and a little bit of basic tax calculation."
In this lesson, we will begin to formally learn double-entry bookkeeping.
Double-entry bookkeeping, also known as double-entry accounting, uses the debit-credit system and has a system of assets, liabilities, and equity...
Fafner found that Mr. Victor's teaching level was quite good. Although there was no textbook for this lesson, Mr. Victor's blackboard writing clearly demonstrated his thinking.
Mr. Victor spoke with great enthusiasm from the podium.
However, some students below were starting to doze off.
Fafnir noticed that one of his classmates sitting to his left had his eyes half-closed and was almost asleep.
"Oh, my students, wake up! Don't be sleepy! Double-entry bookkeeping is extremely important!"
Mr. Victor's voice became slightly louder:
"One way those who blaspheme and lack integrity commit fraud at work is by falsifying financial statement data."
Once you learn double-entry bookkeeping, you'll be able to easily distinguish between them...
……
Throughout Lorraine, I can provide guidance on any financial matters.
……
When I was pursuing my doctoral degree in Spiritual Studies at the First University of the Holy Kingdom, I interned for a period of time at the Holy Kingdom's Supreme Court.
Ah, back then, some businessmen arbitrarily falsified their asset data and arbitrarily assessed the value of their companies in order to evade taxes.
That's absolutely terrible!
……
You know Kieran Connor, right? He's the great elf who single-handedly created the Holy Kingdom's financial system!
Yes, I worked with his son for a short period of time.
……
In short, it's definitely a good idea to learn double-entry bookkeeping well; it's the most basic of all!
... "
As the clock struck 15 PM, the drowsy students awoke, and Mr. Victor's incessant lecture finally ceased, as he continued, seemingly still wanting to say more:
"get out of class dismissed!"
Fafnir picked up the old ledger notebook and prepared to leave the classroom.
"Little Fafnir, how was the lesson?" Mr. Victor called out to him.
"You explained it very well, thank you, Professor Victor. I understand bookkeeping a little better now."
"Study hard, keep it up, Fafnir."
……
Upon returning to the faculty dormitory, Fafnir immediately entered a meditative state and brought up the "ledger".
The data on the panel did indeed change:
Name: Fafner Beckett
Bloodline: Ratman (Basic Night Vision)
Total: 1. Bookkeeping (full) (100/100)
2. Common Elvish (Max) (100/100)
3. Basic Meditation Method (Church of the God of Death) (36/100)
4. Visionary (Church of the God of Death) (36/100)
5. Fireball (Tier 1) (0.2/100)
6. Spirit Language (0.001/100)
Owner: Viktor Zaitsev
Basic Meditation Method (Church of the God of Death) (36/100)
Visionary (Church of the God of Death) (36/100)
Fireball (Tier 1) (0.2/100)
The language of spirits?
Fafnir realized that he must have understood a few words in the spell, which was why he was able to keep this record.
Tranquility and focus descend; a meditative state begins.
Fafnir did not construct the Vision rune.
He has mastered the spiritual rune construction of the Fireball spell by passing the guidance spell given to him by the "owner" and the "investor".
Slowly, guided by him, strands of silvery spiritual threads emitted light and gradually intertwined.
Focus, focus even more. There can't be any mistakes, or we'll have to start over. Slow down...
Perhaps due to some improvement in his meditation techniques, although Fafnir's first attempt at constructing the spiritual runes for the Fireball spell on his own was relatively slow, the process went smoothly.
A strange flower bud bloomed in my mind.
"...Fire element condensation...Spirit realm projection..."
"boom--"
A shallow crater was blasted into the ground outside the window.
"Change: Fireball (Tier 1) +0.2"
