Chapter 107 Ceremony
"This is it!"
"This could be a breakthrough."
"Rolin, you need to simulate the energy fluctuations that their internal personnel or supplies might emit, and then sneak in by mixing into the transport team or creating chaos."
Ella pointed to the partially obscured entrance to the passage in the image sent back by Baha.
"The transport team has strict checks, with both tokens and energy verification, making it difficult to forge."
"A better opportunity might be to create a small-scale but attention-grabbing peripheral disturbance."
"For example, we could trigger a small-scale eruption of ground fire or an energy disturbance to attract some of the attention of the inner guards and the lock-on of the detection array. Then we could take the opportunity to quickly break through that relatively weak passage area and use Rolin's simulated fluctuations to deceive the remaining automatic alarms."
The shadows analyzed.
Yan Xin immediately said, "I can try to guide a small and unstable volcanic tributary away from our evacuation route to create a controlled small eruption."
"But it takes time to prepare, and once it is guided, it may trigger a chain reaction of geological ley lines, increasing the number of uncertainties."
"Let's use this plan," Ella decided.
"The timing of creating chaos must be precise; it must be at the very moment we are ready to break through."
"How long do you need to prepare the rock core?"
"At least an hour will be needed, and someone will also be needed to help set up the guiding runes," Yanxin replied.
"Shadow, Vena, assist Rockheart."
"Rolin, continue refining the energy simulation to ensure it remains stable for at least two minutes in the event of chaos."
"Heinz, Rex, Marcus, you come with me and lie in ambush near the designated breakthrough point. Once the three of them successfully infiltrate and create more chaos, we'll either launch a strong attack to provide support, or create a second wave of chaos outside to cover their retreat."
With the plan set, everyone immediately split up and took action. Time was of the essence.
Rolin seized the last moments to practice his technique of simulating chaotic flame fluctuations as skillfully as possible.
Ultimately, he was able to maintain a thin layer of simulated energy on his body surface, which emitted a mottled glow of dark red and purplish-black and whose energy fluctuations were extremely unstable. The simulation accuracy was about 75%, and the duration was about two and a half minutes.
Beyond this time, the energy will begin to become disordered, either dissipating or spiraling out of control.
"That should be enough."
Luo Lin took a deep breath and composed himself.
Meanwhile, Rockheart, protected by Shadow and Vena, stealthily made his way to the designated location.
A crack in the earth's crust, about a mile from the Ash Ring camp, located to their side and rear.
He began to carefully arrange the guiding runes, a delicate task that required avoiding any noticeable fluctuations in the earth's veins that would be detected by the other party.
An hour later, the signal came from the core that everything was ready.
"Everyone in position."
Ella issued commands through the communication amulet.
"Three minutes later, the core sample detonated and a volcanic eruption occurred."
"Shadow, Vena, Rolin, ten seconds after the eruption, at the moment when the automatic alert system in the passageway is most likely to be disrupted, begin the breach!"
Luo Lin and his two companions had already hidden themselves among the pile of rocks near the partially concealed passage. They could clearly see the two apprentice guards at the entrance of the passage and the faint glow of warning runes.
Time passed second by second.
Suddenly, a muffled roar came from the side and rear!
The ground trembled slightly!
A thick, crimson pillar of fire, streaked with black smoke and sparks, shot into the sky from the distant crack in the ground!
The sound of the eruption and the energy surge instantly shattered the stillness of the wasteland.
The two apprentices at the entrance were startled and instinctively looked in the direction of the eruption.
The sounds of people talking and running could be faintly heard from inside the passage, indicating that the camp was also drawn to the sudden eruption of the subterranean fire.
The energy glow of the warning rune showed a very brief, barely perceptible disturbance and weakening.
The automatic array redirected more of the detection energy towards the energy burst!
"Now!"
With a low shout, Shadow leaped out from the ground like a shadow, flicking out several small, solid, diamond-shaped darts without any energy fluctuations, which accurately shot towards the back of the necks of the two apprentices.
Wella followed closely behind, her figure moving as fast as a ghost.
With two soft thuds, the two apprentices collapsed to the ground.
Shadow and Vena quickly dragged them behind the rocks and hid them.
Luo Lin immediately activated his mimicry energy layer, a layer of dark red and mottled light enveloping his entire body, emitting chaotic flame fluctuations similar to those of the ruins.
He followed closely behind Shadow and Vena, rushing towards the entrance of the passage.
The passage was short, about twenty meters long, with light shining through at the end, connecting to the inner area.
The three moved with incredible speed, reaching the end of the passage before the warning runes within it could regain their stable lock!
At the exit of the passage, two Ash Ring apprentices dressed in dark red robes were indeed drawn to the eruption outside and were peering out.
When they saw three figures emanating chaotic internal energy fluctuations rush out, they were stunned for a moment, not realizing for a moment that they were enemies.
Because Rolin's mimicry fluctuations are too similar to the relic energy they are studying!
In that brief moment of distraction!
Shadow and Vena pounced like cheetahs, closing in instantly!
Shadow's dagger grazed an apprentice's throat, while Vena's twin swords plunged into another apprentice's chest and abdomen. The movements were clean and swift, making little noise.
After dealing with the guards, the three quickly dragged the body to a shadowy corner.
This is the inner area of the Ash Ring camp!
This area is much neater than the outer area, with several sturdier tents and stone platforms erected here, and in the center is the entrance to the collapsed ancient architectural ruins.
The dark red energy barrier at the entrance was clearly visible, radiating a powerful energy pressure.
Seven or eight official wizards of the Ash Ring were gathered around a stone altar in front of the barrier, seemingly performing some kind of ritual. Various strange materials and a crystal ball with constantly flickering dark red flames were placed on the altar.
Further away, many apprentices were busy moving things or maintaining some auxiliary magic arrays.
There were more people than expected.
"It's difficult to directly destroy the core of the ritual; getting too close would be detected."
"Look over there," Shadow whispered.
Vena pointed to a smaller tent behind the altar. The tent entrance was sealed with runes, but only two apprentices guarded it.
"The energy fluctuations there are unusual, and the defenses are relatively weak, so it may be a place where important data or key items for rituals are stored."
Luo Lin was also observing quickly.
His gaze swept over the altar, over the wizards, and finally landed on the dark red barrier at the entrance to the ruins.
The moment I focused my gaze on that barrier, a clear throbbing sensation suddenly came from the echo unit in my mental sea!
It was much stronger than the noise we had sensed before!
The energy emanating from that barrier not only possessed a strong chaotic fire attribute, but also seemed to connect to a distant, scorching, and destructive otherworld! Unlike the corrupted world, this world felt more volatile, direct, and filled with a destructive urge.
"As expected—this relic really does lead to another world, or at least it is a manifestation point of the power of that other world."
Luo Lin was certain of it.
At the same time, an even bolder idea popped into my head uncontrollably.
Since the echo unit can sense and record extraterrestrial energy information.
So, what if I could get closer to that barrier, or even—briefly and passively receive a wisp of energy or information from that other world?
This could greatly enrich one's understanding of the rules of different worlds, and might even help one improve the receiving and parsing functions of the echo unit.
The risks are certainly enormous.
Close contact could be detected by the wizards of the Ash Ring, or it could be eroded by the energy of the barrier itself, or it could cause the echo unit to overload or be contaminated by the reverse energy of the otherworld.
But the opportunity is equally tempting.
