Chapter 139: Ray vs Katarina 3
Chapter 139: Ray vs Katarina 3
Both of them stood on top of a round platform with void surrounding them; her domain had very specific rules, and no matter the level, her domain was superior to any other.
What made it special was at its center, a sword floating in the middle of the platform; the platform’s size was rather small, with both of them being able to see each other.
"The rules are simple: none of us can use any magic, and the weapon will be in the hands of the owner." The sword moved toward her hand.
Prohibiting magic had its merits, yet the members held their physical points; someone like an immortal would have killed her in an instant.
Her white figure disappeared, leaving dust in her place; holding the sword in both hands, she wanted to finish it in one strike.
Her attack failed as Ray dodged it, and wanting to attack with bare fists against a blade, there was so little he could achieve. The only places that Katarina aimed to hurt were places that would have ended his life in seconds.
The domain didn’t fit with the rest of her magic, but for Katarina it was always a trump card, a time when her life was in danger; it had its own downsides, however, it was by far the strongest domain she had knowledge about.
"You polished yourself so much to face me, yet it was all for nothing." With a swish sound, the blade cut through his chest. Ray’s eyes were returning to his human form; with no magic to fuel his madness, his senses were returning.
As time progressed and Ray’s mind worked once more, Katarina’s strikes became more fierce; small cuts on his skin had turned into a lost finger.
"This is not mind magic." Ray whispered to himself, whatever that silenced their magic, its fundamental structure was another magic, or some sort of artifact.
With his mind at full once more, Ray stared coldly at Katarina.
"Drop the act; you are nothing without your magic." Changing her target at once to his legs, she wanted to surprise him yet let the blade cut through his flesh.
Being a normal sword, it stuck in his leg for a breath, but that was enough as Ray’s fist landed on her face. The pain of her nose had returned, and with another hit, blood sprayed on his hand.
Trying to get out the blade, Ray’s kick landed on her ankle, breaking it to the point that she fell on the ground with screams of pain escaping her mouth.
"The one in here that is nothing without their magic is you, Katarina." With all of his force Ray kicked her face. "Your biggest enemy at the end is your mind. Did you ever train for a second to face me in such a situation?"
White cracks crumbled the void around them; Katarina could barely talk from all the pain. Dismissing her domain by force would have ended with lasting consequences, but that was her only choice.
Katarina couldn’t sense the smallest fraction of killing intent from Ray; she felt a relief deep down.
"Pathetic." Turning her body to the side, Ray sat on her chest. "You are pathetic, Katarina."
"Ah... We both know you won’t kill me."
Ray said with an emotionless face, "Killing so many people, yet you are not ready to die yourself."
In a few hours he would have forgotten about the genocide he had witnessed, but he had to make a decision; Katarina was too useful as an ally, but a feeling told him to do what was needed. Someone might have called it the right thing; for him, it was just the thing part of him wanted to do.
Slowly the domain faded away, with both of them getting access to their magics.
"The source of your magic is your brain, isn’t it?" Not waiting for an answer, his thumbs penetrated her eyes. His magic attacks the brain like a hungry animal.
He had seen many people whose magic depended heavily on one part of their body. For himself, his body was just a vessel for his system, yet some had an anchor between the two in their body.
Aware of what Ray wanted to do, Katarina punched him, kicked, and screamed. All futile.
Cells of her brain were destroyed one by one; what replaced them was Ray’s healing magic. Since it was not her own magic, one by one, her abilities and equipment were deleted.
"Death for you will be too kind of a gift; from now on, live like one of those you crushed under your feet."
Standing up, Katarina had risen in her place. Ray ignored her and observed the city, or what was once a city. Both their domains had destroyed half of it, and no one had survived to tell the tale.
He didn’t know why. His magic created a blood rose on any corpse that he could find.
"The whole world saw what happened; return to the bunker." Marian’s words echoed in his mind; her fight had apparently ended too.
Using the last drops of his magic, Ray teleported to the hidden bunker, leaving the broken Katarina to wait for the military.

Katarina stared at the words in her system, for her failure even her own magic had left; she couldn’t sense any mind magic inside of her body.
Feeling empty and full of anger at the same time, she wanted to go after Ray, but the harsh reality hit her as she found out she couldn’t even teleport.
The sound of helicopters and jets was getting closer; without her magic, the military had no use for her either.
"Maybe I should just finish it..." Her hand searched for any sharp object that could cut her throat; a heavy boot pinned her hand to the ground.
"The whole world saw what you did in there... Don’t think we will let you just finish it so easily."
She had lost. Lost everything.
