Ira stood before him with her head down. Das did not understand how to proceed after seeing confident Ira in this vulnerable position. After thinking for a bit he asked, "Who is that middle-aged man that came with you?"
Das's voice held a caring tone, his concern evident as he tried to navigate the new dynamics between them. Ira's head remained lowered, and her response was soft, almost pained, "He is my father-in-law."
The revelation caught Das off guard, his brows furrowing in surprise as he struggled to comprehend the situation. "Your father-in-law? But... Ira, why is he treating you like that?."
Ira's gaze lifted slightly, and her eyes met Das's, a fleeting connection of shared vulnerability. Her voice held a mix of pain and resignation as she spoke, "Das, please leave it. I don't want you to involve you in my messy life."
Das's concern deepened, his heartache evident in his gaze. He stepped closer, the distance between them shrinking as he tried to bridge the gap that had grown between them. Your next read is at My Virtual Library Empire
"Ira, you can't shut me out like this," Das said with serious look, his emotions pushing him to be closer to her. "I can help you now. You don't need to worry about me. I'm more powerful that you imagine. You already know that. So, tell me what happened?
How did you end up in this situation?"
Ira's voice took on a tone of stern determination, a blend of pain and resolve as she met his gaze. "Life happened, Das. Choices were made, circumstances changed. I moved on."
The seriousness in Das's voice grew, and he closed the space between them even further. His searching gaze met hers, seeking answers, seeking the fire that had once burned so fiercely between them (I didn't mean that fire).
Ira took a moment to process his words, her mind momentarily caught in a web of thoughts. The surprise of seeing Das after all these months, combined with the emotions stirred up by their conversation, momentarily clouded her thoughts.
But she quickly composed herself, realising what he was asking for. With a subtle nod, she shifted her focus and retrieved the new project file that had been meticulously prepared, detailing the collaboration in the clothing business.
As Das's fingers brushed the file, his eyes remained locked onto Ira's, a connection that seemed unbreakable even in this simple exchange. He took the file from her, his fingers grazing hers briefly, sending a jolt of electricity through them. He began to scan through the document, his expression focused as he delved into the intricate details of the proposed venture.
Meanwhile, Ira's gaze never left him, a sense of wonderment evident in her eyes. Her mind raced, struggling to reconcile the image of the man she had known months ago with the person before her now. She watched as he absorbed the information on the pages, his demeanour a mix of professionalism and sharp insight.
The wonder in her eyes mirrored the incredible journey he had undertaken, a journey that had transformed him from a brothel manager into a formidable figure in the world of business.
As Das flipped through the file, he took note of the financial projections, the marketing strategies, and the potential challenges and opportunities of the collaboration. He raised an eyebrow at certain sections, his expression reflecting his analytical scrutiny. All the while, Ira watched him, her heart beating a little faster with every passing moment.
Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, Das closed the file with a satisfied nod. He looked up at Ira, his gaze meeting hers once again.
