Chapter 401 Through the Gateway

While none of his skills worked, he could still feel Kaos governing every cell, his every atom. Swirling within him, giving him a little comfort and preventing a full-blown panic.

In any case his goal was getting to Hubris to ensure that he wasn't dying. He dragged himself, relief washed over him when he could see Hubris' body falling and rising slowly.

"Don't scare me like that." He sat beside him, without his game power, it would be madness to try and carry a hellhound.

While he guarded his mount, Kiro pondered about what this all meant. It was obvious what caused it, he started to think it was a mistake going around worlds recruiting.

He was dreading going back to Asgard, if he messed something up it would come back to bite his real world. Asgard was created to protect them and he just risked it all.

"Your thoughts are too loud master."

"What the hell happened?" He asked, unable to take his eyes off the phenomenon.

"I did what you asked?" Hubris knew what his master was asking but he also didn't have any answers for him.

"But I can't use any of my skills!"

Hubris didn't answer as they walked back to the camps. He could feel it too, the skills were gone, not completely—locked away for the time being. Maybe that was the price one paid for involving themselves with nature.

When they got the camps many had stopped absorbing only two were still at it. Mabel and Miles. Kiro found himself a little scared of the affinity they possessed for the energy that wasn't exactly friendly to anyone—he imagined with enough guidance they'd be monsters to be reckoned with.

"Can I get your attention please?" He yelled at the top of his lungs, standing atop Hubris. Since losing the ability to activate skills he couldn't amplify his voice so he did the next thing that would attract attention.

One by one the people turned to him. Those who've died had been moved elsewhere, those who fainted had already been woken up. There were exactly a hundred that could harness Kaos.

"Don't worry about that. I'll send my clone over once we cross the bridge. Maybe two, they'll inform me if anything happens."

He nodded, satisfied with the answer and fell back to the group. He couldn't hope to keep up with Hubris' large strides.

Kiro found it strange that almost everyone who had an affinity for Kaos was a peasant. All those aristocrats died or fainted—rendering them useless for the battles ahead.

As if nature itself was punishing them for all the bad they'd done. He secretly wished that would be the case in his world.

"I'll go through first, then my clone. You're not to follow until my clone comes out of here, you understand?"

Nobody fought his order, nobody but Hubris. They didn't know how safe the bridge was and Kiro was just risking it all, but he reminded Hubris that this wasn't his real body.

The worst that could happen was if he died and woke up in his real world. His mount was skeptical, but allowed it nonetheless.

The thing didn't look like a bridge or a tunnel. It resembled a portal but not anything he'd seen before. It was almost invisible, the only thing that confirmed that it was there was the space that was warped around it.

He gathered his courage and stepped inside. It was only but a second and he was on the other side. It was curious that Hubris chose the bridge to be within the walls of their base.

Kiro brushed his hand against the wind a gust whirled in front of him. He smiled and activated his duplicate skill and sent his clones to the other side.

Not even a second later and people from that world started filing in making a racket. They were naturally shocked seeing a world like this, with technology and architecture that was hundreds of years ahead of theirs.

Their mouths stood agape, marvelled at how fantastical the world was.

"Where the hell have you been?"

Kiro didn't need to turn to know the voice was from his best friend, Hiro. He sounded really angry at him and he honestly couldn't understand why.
